There was a massive
volcano known as Mount Jayagiri in the north of Bandung and the area known as
the Tangkuban Parahu Mountain Range.
Mount Jayagiri
erupted massively in 560,000 years ago causing a large part of mountain to
collapse and forming a huge crater, out of which grew a new mountain called
Mount Sunda.
Mount Sunda also
erupted and formed a new cauldron out of which emerged Mount Tangkuban Parahu
as the grandchild of Mount Jayagiri.
The eruption of
Mount Sunda took formed a basin and blocked the Citarum River, turning the
basin into a Great Lake of Bandung. The lake drained away, the reason for which
is become the subject of ongoing debate among geologist. The drained basin
today is become a big city known as Bandung.
Tangkuban Parahu
volcano located in the north of Bandung, approximately 140 kilometers south
east of Jakarta. Tangkuban Parahu literally means ‘upside down boat’, it can be
seen from the Bandung city to the north.
Tangkuban Parahu is
a 90 minutes drive from weekdays. The easiest was to get there is by joining a
tour or rent a car.
There are numerous
hotels around Bandung, but if we wish to stay longer near Tangkuban Parahu,
there are plenty of hotels in Lembang (north Bandung).
